DevOps Platform Engineer GCP (m/f/d)

You are one of the first engineers of our new GCP DevOps Platform and work closely with the Lead Platform Engineer to shape the technical foundation from the first day. You design, build and operate GKE-based Kubernetes environments that host SAP integrations, e-commerce workloads and internal applications. You develop reusable terraform modules and crossplane compositions that become Golden Paths for the application teams. You implement the basic services of the platform: Networking, IAM, Secret Manager, Container, Observability and CI/CD modules for application pipelines. You integrate platform capabilities into our backstage developer portal so that application teams can obtain cluster namespaces, secrets and deployment pipelines in self-service. You establish Operational Excellence Practices: SLOs, Alerting, Runbooks and a meaningful on-call model for platform components. You contribute to technical standards, code review culture and architecture decision records in the hybrid platform team in Bucharest and Ulm. You actively drive the cultural change from strict dev/ops separation to DevOps teams with real end-to-end responsibility – supported by a strong platform and clear interfaces.

Multiannual practical experience as a platform engineer, cloud engineer or SRE in building and operating productive platforms on the Google Cloud Platform – or comparable sound AWS/Azure experience. Deep, practical expertise with Kubernetes (GKE preferred), including Networking, Workload Identity, Autoscaling, Multi-Tenancy and Day-2-Operations. Strong terraform skills – module design, state management, CI/CD-driven workflows – and ideally experience with crossplane, Config Connector, cluster API or comparable approaches. Secure handling of the central GCP components: VPC, IAM, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, Artifact Registry. Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred; GitHub Actions, Argo CD or Tekton comparable) and with the packaging of applications via containers and helmet. Funded knowledge of observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) and a clear sense of what is on platform vs. The level of application shall be measured. A safety-conscious engineering style: Least-Privilege-IAM, clean handling of Secrets, Image Scanning and an understanding of GDPR-relevant data flows in a European multi-country setup. A pragmatic platform-as-a-product miniset – you treat developers as customers and prefer Golden Paths to individual solutions. Experience with event-driven integration patterns and SAP integration landscapes. English is required in a reliable manner; German or Romanian knowledge is a plus.
