The Institute for Sexual Research, Sexual Medicine and Forensic Psychiatry is one of the leading sexual sciences and forensic-psychiatric institutions in Europe. With funding from the EU, DFG, BMBF, Innovation Fund and others, we conduct clinical and supply research, social science research and experimental basic research.

On behalf of and in cooperation with the Authority for Justice and Consumer Protection of the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, we are opening a stationary short-term psychiatry at the Central Hospital of the Hamburg Detention Centre as of 01.09.2026. This is a psychiatric station with 11 to 14 beds, where only people who are currently in Hamburg's prison are treated. This stationary short-term psychiatry closes the gap between the outpatient prison psychiatric offer in the individual institutions and the cases that have to be transferred out of custody in accordance with legal provisions.

Your tasks:

• They carry out the patient: internal treatments at the psychiatric short-term station. Observation and second vision are guaranteed
• They are involved in the station meetings (breakfast meetings, team meetings, visits)
• Regular participation in case-conferences and Supervisions
• Designing the release and transfer management of imprisoned people with mental illnesses
• Optimum conditions for cooperation on scientific research projects
• Participation in university teaching
• Participation in the further development of the work area

As a doctor or doctor Specialist/specialist strengthen the team of prison psychiatry. It is a full-time and part-time position (with at least 50% of the regular weekly working hours). The posts are limited until 28.02.2029 for the first time, an extension is avised. The occupation is expected to take place at 01.09.2026.

• Complete medical studies
• Started psychiatric training or completed further training to/from the specialist for psychiatry and psychotherapy
• knowledge of (acute) treatment of people with schizophrenia spectral disorders, bipolar disorders, depressive syndromes, trauma disorders, personality disorders and addiction disorders
• prior knowledge of forensic psychiatry (including expert opinions) and psychotherapy are desirable, but are not provided
• Interest in teaching and research
• empathy, commitment, flexibility, communication skills, conflictability, self-employment, team capacity, responsibility

Immunity status

An adjustment is only possible if, according to the applicable (legal and medical) requirements against the measles virus, a complete immunization or Immunity evidence is available. This must be demonstrated by appropriate documents (e.g. vaccination card) before the start of employment.
