The IDM is partner of the German Center of Diabetes Research (DZD). Our primary research goal is to identify the molecular basis underlying the prevention of diabetes by physical exercise. In the 3D-IMAT project we investigate the impact of the intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) on disease development diabetes like and sarcopenia. In collaboration with our project partners at the University of Stuttgart, the project focuses on development and functional characterization of a novel 3D-IMAT model utilizing primary human cell-sources, bioassembly and bioprinting. After functional characterization and validation, 3D-IMAT will be used to investigate how intermuscular adipose tissue treating physiological and pathological processes like skeletal muscle’s growth, atrophy, metabolism and fibrosis.
