Training as a surgical assistant (OTA)

Since the beginning of 2012, the Hamburg School for Health and Nursing has been offering training as an assistant*in (OTA). The training prepares you for a wide range of tasks in the operation service and in the functional areas, such as ambulance, endoscopy and central sterilization. The training takes three years and is divided into at least 1,600 hours of theory and at least 3,000 hours of practice. The conclusion is an oral, written and practical examination in accordance with the guidelines of the German Hospital Society (DKG).

Requirements for training

• Minimum age 18 years at the beginning of training
• Real school or equivalent completed schooling
• Main school qualification in connection with vocational training or permission as a nurse Senior Caregiver
• a two- to four-week internship with us in the surgery area in the Marienkrankenhaus
• health suitability for the profession
• physically and mentally resilient
• Willingness to work in large teams, independent action
