Number: MER0003V2M Do you want to actively shape the future of automotive lighting? In the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of tomorrow. The team “Future Interior” explores and develops innovative concepts for the interior of the future – with a special focus on aesthetic light productions, optical materials and emotional user experiences. We combine design, technology and science to create new forms of perception and interaction in the vehicle. Light plays a central role as a design element and medium for communication, atmosphere and brand identity. These challenges include: Analysis of current trends, technologies and materials in the field of light, optics and ambience lighting

Participation in ideas and concept development for new decorative elements with optical effects

Support for visualization of light concepts (2D/3D, renderings, animations, light simulations)

Creation of presentations and concept documentation for internal reviews and management meetings

Close cooperation with designers:inside, engineer:inside and material expert:in implementing new light ideas

The activity can start from January 2026.

Studies in the field of optical engineering, photonics, light design, product design, technical design, mechanical engineering vehicle engineering or related fields

Enthusiasm for light, material and perception in the automotive context

Basic knowledge of 3D modeling and visualization desirable (e.g. Blender, Rhino, VRED, KeyShot or comparable tools)

Creative and analytical thinking – you understand light as a physical and design medium

Self-employed, structured working and pleasure in interdisciplinary cooperation

Very good knowledge of German and English in word and writing
