Due to the adjustable optical, mechanical and chemical properties, the material glass can be used in many areas. Flat glasses for the architecture and the car industry as well as container glasses for the packaging industry are produced from simple lime-sodium silicate glasses. Glass fibers from the aluminum-borosilicate system serve as reinforcing fibers in plastics for wind turbines and optical glass fibers enable fast and worldwide communication. In addition, optical glasses are the basis of precision optics for medicine, micro- and telescopes, as well as photolithography, with which the latest computer chips can be produced. In the field of life sciences, bioglasses are used to cultivate cells in the laboratory and renew bones in the human body. In all these areas, diverse research projects with industrial partners are held at the Chair of Glass and Glass Ceramics to make glass production more sustainable and energy efficient. You have a degree as a chemical-technical assistant or as a physical-technical assistant in the field of thermoanalysis or a comparable qualification.
