In the Information Technology Department of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the following shall be placed: Head of Network and Security (w/m/d) Reference number 3760 Working group A 15 BBesO Location Berlin Unlimited Application deadline 22.03.2026 Civilisation shall be carried out in the presence of the conditions under civil law and the complete fulfilment of the qualification profile. Alternatively, the place can also be occupied by employees with a remuneration up to 15 TVöD. Compensation is appropriate for tasks and qualifications. The BfR shall, independently on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria, draw up opinions and opinions on food, feed and chemicals safety and health consumer protection in Germany. In these areas it advises the Federal Government as well as other institutions and interest groups. This makes the BfR an important contribution to protecting people. The Department of Information Technology with more than 80 employees plans, acquires and operates IT for the entire BfR in order to ensure secure, flexible and efficient IT support in performing all tasks of the institute. IT enables new data-intensive scientific methods and supports cross-authorities projects with its own software development. It is also a driving force in the digitization of the administration and the productive use of artificial intelligence.

The tasks of the department require a robust and efficient IT infrastructure. Strengthening IT security and cyber resilience are strategic areas of action of IT. To do this, we are looking for you to advance this important and sophisticated field as a guide force and to set technical impulses. Specific activities include: Head of the group “Network and Security” with approximately 25 employees in five teams Strategic orientation and control of the group in a dynamic environment Coordination of the use of employees and targeted development of specialist competencies in the department Design, planning and implementation of network modernization, network services and infrastructure including virtualization, storage environment and backup Control and Structured Implementation of Operational IT Security Design, planning and implementation of the modernization and expansion of IT infrastructure and operating areas (computer center, server rooms, etc.) Management of important projects within the department including coordination with project participants and external bodies (stakeholder management) Cooperation with the Head of Division, Head of Department and the Departments of the BfR

Completed academic studies (master, diploma or comparable qualification) of computer science or in a comparable field Multiannual relevant professional experience and proven skills and knowledge in the management of an organisational unit Very good knowledge of networks and infrastructure environments (hardware and software) Good knowledge of DNS, DHCP and directory services Very good knowledge of IT security and basic IT protection (on-premise and cloud) Good knowledge of server operating systems (Linux, Windows) Embossed initiative, strategic thinking and independent conscientious working Enforcement, negotiation skills, cooperation and team skills Very good knowledge of German and English in word and writing Ability to family-conscious leadership, knowledge of the relationships between leadership, motivation and willingness to perform Willingness to develop leadership skills, strong sense of responsibility, high readiness for learning and training readiness for the extended safety review under the Security Audit Act In the case of foreign educational qualifications, proof of equivalence with a German degree is required (see: anabin.kmk.org).
