Postdoc – Stack Characterization for High-Temperature Electrolysis for Power-to-X Applications (f/m/d)

Branch: Humanities Branch: Humanities

Research for a society in change: This is our drive at the Jülich Research Centre. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, we are presenting great social challenges of our time and exploring options for the digitalisated society, a climate-saving energy system and related services. Work together with around 7,500 colleagues: in one of the largest research centres in Europe and shape the change with us! The Institute of Energy Technologies – Basics of Electrochemistry (IET-1) deals with the scientific foundations of the development of powerful and resource-efficient materials and components for electrochemical energy storage and energy conversion. The aim of the research and development work is cost-effective batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers with improved energy and power density, longer service life and maximum safety! These key technologies help to advance the energy transition and structural change in the Rhine basin. More information about our exciting projects can be found at go.fzj.de/iet-1. Strengthen this range at the next time as Postdoc – Stack Characterization for High Temperature Electrolysis for Power-to-X Applications (w/m/d) JOBV1_EN

The joint project PHOENIX – Launch Space Power-to-X plays a central role in reconciling the innovation cycles of P2X technologies with the long-term goals of the energy transition, the European “Green Deal” and the brown coal exit. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the project focuses on two key aspects: the accelerated technology development and the sustainable design of P2X value chains. In this multi-page and forward-looking postdoc position, you take a key role in the characterization of novel high-temperature electrolysis stacks (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell [SOEC] Stacks). They work on the regenerative production of hydrogen and synthesis gas from resources such as water, carbon dioxide and biogas – a central contribution to the energy transition. Your tasks in detail: Planning, supervision and implementation of innovative experiments with solid oxide cells, both in electrolysis and fuel cell mode Characterization of the repeat units in stack operation using identical and alternating current-based techniques, such as characteristics, cyclovoltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy Participation in the investigation and optimization of stacks and cells by testing using spectroscopic or microscopic methods Further development of experiments, measurement methods and measurement technology and improvement of experimental equipment Presentation of results at renowned conferences and publication in leading journals Advice and support of doctoral researchers, students and employees: Supporting project management through coordination and public relations and promoting knowledge transfer to practice

Complete master's degree in chemistry, electrochemistry, technical chemistry, chemical engineering or a comparable subject (e.g. engineering with focus on process engineering or chemistry) and successfully completed doctorate Practical knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical transducers and/or process engineering equipment Experience in electrochemical characterization, ideally with techniques such as impedance spectroscopy Scientific experience in the field of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and/or solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) is advantageous experience in software tools such as Origin, MATLAB, Matplotlib (Python) or similar data processing and evaluation programs; Knowledge in a relevant programming language complement your profile optimally Responsible operation and self-initiative in new topics Joy of cooperative teamwork Very good knowledge of German and English in word and writing

We work on highly topical socially relevant topics and offer you the opportunity to actively shape the change! We support you in your work: A large research campus in the countryside, which offers the best possible possibilities for networking with colleagues and for sport compensation in addition to work Comprehensive training offers and individual possibilities for personal and professional development A comprehensive occupational health management Optimum conditions for the reconciliation of work and private life and family-conscious business policy The possibility of (local)flexible work, e.g. in the Homeo-ffice Flexible working time models as well as a full-time activity, which can also be carried out in full time (go.fzj.de/complete-time) 30 days holiday and all bridge days and between Christmas and New Year always free of charge In addition to exciting tasks and a collegial team, we offer you a lot more: go.fzj.de/Benefits. The position is limited until 30.11.2028. Remuneration and social benefits are subject to the existing qualifications and, depending on the transfer of duties in the area of remuneration groups, 13–14 according to the public service collective agreement (TVöD-Bund). All information on the TVöD-Bund can be found on the BMI page: go.fzj.de/bmi.tvoed. The monthly fees in Euro can be found in page 66 of the PDF download. JOBV1_EN
