Research Assistant – Dynamic Trajectory Planning of Unmanned Aerial Systems (m/f/d)

Branch: Teaching and training Branch: Teaching and training

The Institute for Flight System Dynamics (FSD) at RWTH Aachen is dedicated to the design, modelling and automation of flight systems. A research focus is on the regulation and safe operation of highly automated flight systems in unconventional configurations, such as so-called change flight systems. These systems are characterized in that they can change their configuration during the flight, for example by tilting their wings in the case of tilt-wing systems, as a result of which they are used in a wide range of speeds from fly-over to fast flight-tracks. These flight systems are suitable, for example, for the transport of time-critical medical goods (e.g. Eden-Medical) and as sensor carriers for the support of rescue forces (e.g. RaMilan). A robust automatic rail planning is required for safe operation of these aircraft, especially outside the visibility range. This includes both the pre-calculation of trajectories for fulfilling abstract missions and a rescheduling during flight, for example in order to avoid other airspace participants or to react to changes in the mission targets. A ground station is required for the development and monitoring of these functionalities. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. There is a wide range of training and the possibility of obtaining a job ticket for employees and civil servants. .
