Semantic Data Architect (m/f/d)

Branch: Public relations Branch: Public relations

As a German Central Library of Technology and Natural Sciences, our pioneering services ensure the infrastructural requirements of high-quality information and literature supply for research in science and industry. With the Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG), we work to revolutionize the exchange and use of scientific knowledge in the digital age. The Technical Information Library (TIB), Programme Area C, Research and Development is looking for the Lab Linked Scientific Knowledge (LAB LSK) at the next possible time

The job is limited to two years and an extension is sought. The regular weekly working time is 39.80 hours (full time). The workplace is only partially suitable for a limited period. The grouping takes place in the remuneration group 13 TV-L. .

Your tasks • Your profile • What we offer

You work in an interdisciplinary team on the development and operation of semantic research data infrastructures for chemistry, materials and engineering. You act as bridge builders: between the scientific disciplines, ontology development and software development. You operate independently across projects, develop cross-border semantic models, applications and services, and also test AI-based approaches to efficient ontology development and curation. Semantic modelling: Interface to partners from chemistry, engineering, computer science and libraries Evaluation and use of LLM-based tools for AI-based ontology development and curation with human-in-the-loop approach Development and maintenance of domain-specific ontologies and controlled vocabularies for materials science, manufacturing technology and process engineering as well as chemistry Application, mapping and alignment of established standards: Metadata4Ing, MSEO, BFO, DataCite, DCAT-AP Design of metadata schemes and generic protocol structures for experiments and processing processes Construction and maintenance of Knowledge Graphs (RDF, SPARQL) Conceptual system development with software developer:inside: Spring guide in the conceptual (further) development of the RDM system architecture from the “Big-Picture” perspective common requirements engineering in the team: Translation of domain requirements into technical specifications for applications for semantic annotation of research data, protocols and other data types Quality assurance of system implementations with regard to semantic correctness, FAIR compliance and interoperability Using Knowledge-Graph Interfaces and SPARQL Query Interfaces

A person seeking semantic knowledge modelling and ontology engineering as a core competence and has already tested it in concrete projects. the ability to design technical systems (repositories, electronic laboratory journals, knowledge graphs, annotation tools) conceptually without necessarily programming itself. It is a pleasure to meet engineers:inside and at eye level, to raise requirements and to translate them into semantically clean, interoperable solutions. can contribute in parallel to several projects, do not lose the red thread and proactively informs and relieves the project manager. You have a completed academic degree (master, university diploma or equivalent degree) in computer science, chemistry, material science, engineering, information science, computer linguistics, linguistics/language science, digital humanities, data science or a related subject, provided that there is a detectable thematic reference to knowledge modelling, semantic technologies or information structuring. Confidence with the FAIR data principles and modern standards of research data management. Knowledge in handling common metadata schemes such as DataCite, Schema.org, DCAT. Experience in modeling metadata schemes and/or controlled vocabulary. very good understanding of software development processes and the ability to act as a conceptual bridge between domain expert:inside and developer. Knowledge in handling version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows. high self-organization and independent working. very good knowledge of English in word and writing. Required qualifications Experiences with ontologies from chemistry, material sciences or engineering Experience with Ontology Development Tools such as ROBOT, ODK or Protégé Knowledge in LinkML, SSSOM Experience with AI-based methods of ontology development and knowledge modeling, in particular the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) as assistance tools in ontology engineering (e.g. OntoGPT, CurateGPT, LLM-based ROBOT workflows) Experience with data repository, electronic laboratory journals, semantics mediawiki or terminology services German knowledge is advantageous, but not absolutely necessary

Our aim is to rethink and innovate the provision and use of research data and information. In the TIB research and development department, you have the opportunity to advance your scientific further qualification and research career in a dynamic and excellent research environment. We offer an intellectually inspiring environment with entrepreneurial thinking, embedded in a leading technical university and one of the largest information centres in the Leibniz community. With the L3S research centre at Leibniz Universität Hannover, one of the world's leading research institutes in the field of Web & Data Science, there is a close cooperation within the framework of the Leibniz Joint Lab Data Science & Open Knowledge. Last but not least, we value an open and creative working environment where it is fun to work. In addition, we offer a community-oriented workplace in the public service on the basis of the TV-L with a remuneration according to the remuneration group 13 TV-L. a special payment at the end of the year and 30 days holiday a year at a five-day week as well as additional free days on Christmas Eve (24.12.) and New Year's Eve (31.12.). a flexible workplace in time and space with offers for the reconciliation of work and family, such as mobile work and flexible working time models. a modern workplace in a central location of Hanover with a collegial, attractive and versatile work environment. an employer with a wide range of continuing and continuing training, occupational health promotion and pension provision for the public service (VBL). Employee discount in the students of the Studentenwerk Hannover as well as a favourable opportunity to use the versatile offers of the Hannover University Sports. independent and forward-looking activities that offer variety and leave room for personal development. .
