We take care of the IP rights (Intellectual Property) of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Mercedes-Benz AG and its subsidiaries to ensure the protection of these rights. Due to the balancing of interests and the overall operating agreement “Zukunft Daimler” (GBV 93), all overall operating arrangements of Mercedes-Benz Group AG also apply collectively to Mercedes-Benz Intellectual Property GmbH & Co. KG. Among other things, it is ensured that our employees are continued to work with us and that our employees are internally equal to Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. As a patent professional, you are responsible for the perception of complex matters related to technical rights, including related contractual matters, including external representation, also to authorities in the field of exterior/internal/autonomous driving. Ensuring the IP freedom of action in the development processes in the technical fields of exterior/ interior/autonomous driving and the support through the introduction of IP expertise in controlling the global patent portfolio in the technology clusters exterior/ interior/autonomous driving and the corresponding activation of the IP offices in the respective subsidiaries belong to your field of activity. Your tasks in detail: Analysis of complex legal issues in the field of national, European and international (e.g. USA, China, India, Japan, Korea) technical industrial legal protection, taking into account the formal requirements and the substantive requirements for the protection of technical inventions, as well as the relevant case law in the case of inputs or oral negotiations at the competent offices or Courts

Examination of complex legal questions in the context of requests for authorizations or complaints by third parties directed against us, examine the prospects for success and independent development of a defence strategy and make the decision on relevant bodies

Creating expert opinions/experts on comprehensive topics including increased technical difficulty in complex legal areas in technical industrial legal protection in the fields of exterior/in-house/autonomous driving with corresponding risk assessment in terms of IP freedom of movement

Own-sponsored project-accompanying consultation of the R&E areas responsible for the development of exterior/internal/autonomous driving and the other functions involved in this connection (e.g. purchasing, development, project management, M&A) with the aim of developing their own IP positions

Self-testing of the protection of notified inventions also with increased legal and/or technical difficulty and independent evaluation of the attainable scope of protection taking into account the legal requirements and independent decision on the filing of patent applications and the development of designs for this, taking into account the company's IP strategy

Representation of business interests to the outside in complex legal issues (in particular technical rights, licenses, enforcement of proprietary rights)

Responsible conduct of correspondence and oral negotiations with patent authorities/courts

IP-legal issues regarding the building of the patent portfolio in the strategic technology clusters with the technical field with regard to IP-handling freedom and IP-exclusiveness are assessed in terms of content and introduced as expert council into the further decision-making process

Conception and implementation of internal training for industrial property rights, in particular with regard to patent application, patent application and division, as well as inventive remuneration in the fields of expertise

Acquisition of the training of new employees in the IP environment as well as assistance in the course of training as a German patent attorney and/or European representative

Ideally, you will bring: Education: Technical or scientific university studies or comparable qualification

Studies with a focus on IP (Intellectual Property) or additional training to the German Patent Attorney / Syndikuspatentanwalt / Patentassesor or European Patent Attorney or comparable qualification from long-term activity in an industrial patent department

Experience: Long-term professional experience in an industry patent department and/or a patent attorney law firm

Multiannual professional experience in a technical development field

Successful processing of complex issues and legal advice in the field of technical industrial legal protection

Specific knowledge: In-depth knowledge of patent law

In-depth knowledge in the technical field Exterior/ Interior/ Autonomous Driving

Wide technical understanding and good understanding

Good knowledge of the Group's entire development organisation and body landscape

Knowledge about IP management processes and relevant tools, especially with focus on AI

German and English skills
