Department of Internal Medicine I focusing on gastroenterology, hepatology, pneumology, internalist intensive medicine, endocrinology, infectiology, rheumatology, nutritional and aging medicine (Direction: Prof. Dr. Jan Heyckendorf/Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Stefan Schreiber)

The Department of Internal Medicine I has a wide range of different subspecies and covers the supply of a variety of internalist diseases. In addition to extensive outpatient and normal-stationary care, the clinic, together with the Clinic for Cardiology, operates a large internal intensive care unit and is actively involved in the emergency medical care of interdisciplinary emergency care. It also has an interventionally high-level endoscopy including Bronchoscopy, sonography and various other functional areas. The clinic is currently almost completely moved into new premises with the most modern equipment just a few meters from the Kieler Förde.

• Supply of internal patients in a wide range of university maximum care
• Wide pneumological care with the full range of university medicine: a powerful interventional-bronchoscopic endoscopy, state-of-the-art intensive-medical-pneumological therapy (up to lung replacement procedures) and other conventional diagnostic and therapy options within the department
• The clinic has an established pneumological and bronchoscopic specialist competence
• Close collegial and interdisciplinary cooperation between the various disciplines within the Department of Internal Medicine I as well as between the other clinics of the university campus, among others as part of the accredited lung cancer center and an interdisciplinary center for the system medical treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases
• In order to obtain further subspecies within the scope of the various training authorisations of the clinic, it is possible to obtain them.
