Computer scientists transfer processes of the real world to computer systems by converting the task into suitable models and then mapping them to software systems. The variety of applications is virtually unlimited and steadily increases with the increasing performance of the systems. In the field of software technology, students implement the developed models in instructions (programming), which a processor or a suitable software can understand and execute accordingly. Another work area of computer scientists is the creation of technical infrastructure. For this reason, the structure and function of a computer system as well as the safe operation of computer networks are centers of study. Application-specific programming languages, operating systems and database technologies are other important pillars. The protection of data and devices from unauthorized access is becoming increasingly important.
