The written position can be exercised at one of our central BARMER locations: Berlin, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Wuppertal and approx. 30 other locations in Germany.

You develop our metadata management solution and implement it in practice – including setup, operation and continuous improvement of the data catalog. The integration of different data sources (e.g. Data Lake on S3/Athena, Data Warehouse and future systems) into the data catalogue and the design of technical connection from the end is one of your tasks. In addition, customize the data catalog professionally and technically (customizing, extensions) so that specific business requirements are accurately mapped. Your activity also includes the formulation of technical requirements for source systems. You act as a connecting member between data governance, disciplines and platform teams. In doing so, you carry out structured tests and technical acceptances of the connections. In addition, you develop and operate scripts as well as tools for automating the collection, validation and maintenance of metadata, increasing quality and efficiency. You define and implement processes for technical, business and operational metadata and ensure high data quality, consistency and traceability. You work closely with Data Ownern as well as specialist experts to fully collect and document business metadata. You can also measure and optimize the performance and scalability of the metadata infrastructure and use new technologies and best practices (e.g. Data Governance, Lakehouse, Spark).

You bring several years of professional experience in the development of data solutions, ideally focusing on metadata management. In addition, you will bring well-founded knowledge about data catalog tools such as Collibra, Alation or Apache Atlas. You can already gain practical experience with relational and NoSQL databases as well as other storage technologies such as graph or vector databases. Very good programming skills, especially in Python, Java or Scala, and knowledge with web services (REST, OpenAPI) belong to your reporter. In addition, you are well familiar with SQL and script languages and understand classic and modern data architecture concepts (e.g. Lakehouse, Spark). You are familiar with the principles of data protection and the requirements of the GDPR and apply them safely. You ideally have knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS) and SAP technologies (e.g. SAP HANA). You are characterized by pronounced analytical skills, solution-oriented thinking and clear and comprehensible communication.
