The MorphoSphere project develops an advanced data management architecture for distributed, intelligent and interactive storage and analysis of large 3D tomographic datasets to accelerate scientific discoveries. The project integrates synchrotron imaging systems, high-performance computing resources and data infrastructures at DESY, KIT and Heidelberg University, creating a unique combination of large scale imaging, high-performance computing and data management. The UFO framework consists of the ufo-core pipeline management library (https://github.com/ufo-kit/ufo-core) and the ufo-filters library (https://github.com/ufo-kit/ufo-filters), which provides OpenCL-based image processing algorithms. You will modernise and redesign key architecture elements of the framework and continue to use proven components to meet the requirements of future large scale imaging applications.

Your tasks in detail: Modernization or new development of the open source UFO framework for scalable GPU-accelerated image reconstruction and analysis Development of execution and scheduling mechanisms for graph-based processing piplines across CPUs, GPUs and multi-node systems Optimization of data flow architectures for high throughput processing with focus on: Zero-copy processing asynchronous design streaming-oriented pipelines GPU-to-GPU data efficient use of fast interconnects Integration and implementation of reconstruction and image processing algorithms for large scale 3D imaging Development of Python interfaces and tools for high-level workflow orchestration PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or related disciplines, alternatively Master's degree in one of the mentioned areas with at least two years of professional experience Practical experience in developing complex software systems in high-performance computing (HPC) or GPU computing environments Experience with GPU programming and parallel computing (CUDA, OpenCL, MPI or comparable technologies) Very good programming skills in C/C++ and Python Good knowledge of Linux and modern software development (debugging, profiling, build systems, version management, design patterns) Very good English skills in word and writing

Required qualifications: Experience with image processing or tomographic reconstruction Experience with graph-based execution systems, streaming/data flow architectures or task schedulers Experience with RDMA/high speed networks or multi-GPU programming
