The Leibniz Institute for European History (IEG) in Mainz is an extra-university research institute in the Leibniz Association. It operates and promotes research on European history from the early modern era to the history of time and is actively involved in the development of digital humanities. For 01.01.2026, a position (50 % TV-L EG 13) is at the IEG as Head of Finance & Controlling (m, w, d) Science is supported by the administrative area professionally and service-oriented. We are looking for a dedicated management personality to strengthen the Finance & Controlling team. As the head of this department you are contact:in the IEG budget and are in close contact with the delegates for the budget (administrative management). They support the creation of the program budget, develop the cost and performance bill strategically and apply it accordingly. In addition, you design and optimize the controlling activities for planning and controlling resources.

Strategic management and further development of the financial team with currently four employees. Budgeting, budget management and third-party management, awarding. Monitoring compliance with budgetary requirements (Bund / Land), tax requirements and internal guidelines. Building and further developing a regular financial reporting. Establishment and continuous optimization of digital processes in the financial sector. Creation, monitoring and control of the budgets and implementation of controlling measures for the financial management of the institution. Support for administrative management in financial matters, strategic planning and investment decisions. Participation in daily business.

Complete study of economics or a comparable subject or equivalent qualification. Insufficient professional experience and first leadership experience and/or project management experience. Safe knowledge of the commercial accounting and management of public institutions. In-depth knowledge of budgetary law and financial and accounting / controlling. Knowledge in the procurement sector is desirable. Affinity for new technologies and willingness to introduce and drive digital innovations. Very good office skills and online expertise, knowledge in Lexware or comparable software. Self-employed and proactive work. Cooperation and organisational capacity, negotiating and enforcement capacity. Good knowledge of English in word and writing.
