Project description As part of the digitalization strategy of Mercedes-Benz, a focus will be placed on the use of drones in the production and logistics environment. Drones offer a variety of ways to make processes more efficient in production, maintenance, factory logistics and data collection. Examples are automated documentation of system states, support in inspection tasks or the detection of image and sensor data in areas that are difficult to access. The project aims to develop an Android app for the DJI RC Plus 2. The aim is to tap the video stream of the drone, select relevant telemetry data and send selected flight commands via Virtual Stick to the drone. The application should serve as a technical prototype and provide a basis for the evaluation of drone-based applications in the industrial environment. Your tasks: Installation in DJI Mobile SDK V5, DJI RC Plus 2 and the DJI Sample app on GitHub

Conception and programming of an Android app in Kotlin or Java with Android Studio

Record and display the drone video stream within the app

Reading, structuring and visualizing relevant telemetry data such as position, height, speed, battery status and flight condition

Implementation of selected flight commands via Virtual Stick for prototypical control of the drone

Test, documentation and evaluation of the app prototype using defined application scenarios

The activity can begin from August 2026.

Necessary experiences: Good knowledge of Kotlin or Java

Safe handling of Android Studio and Android app development

Knowledge of the DJI sample app on GitHub are advantageous
