Our department is responsible for the functional safety of our Mercedes-Benz drive systems. This includes electric drives, hybrid drives and conventional internal combustion engines. Functional safety is essential in the automotive sector to protect people and objects from hazards caused by malfunctions of technical systems and to reduce risks to an acceptable level. In view of the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, which contain a large number of electrical and electronic systems (E/E systems), ensuring functional safety has become a highly complex and complex challenge that requires comprehensive expertise and innovative solutions. The guarantee of functional safety is not only a technical necessity, but is also required by specific standards and laws. The most important standard for this is the ISO 26262 and is a fundamental prerequisite for the approval of vehicles in different countries and for the confidence of customers in the safety of our Mercedes-Benz products. The aim of this final work is to analyze selected software functions of the drive train and to develop a functional safety approach according to ISO 26262. These challenges come to you: Analysis of drivetrain system architectures and safety-critical software functions Examination of functional safety requirements (FSR) and technical safety requirements (TSR) Investigation of software security mechanisms for fault detection and fault treatment Analysis of security-relevant communication between ECUs Assessment of ASIL decomposition concepts and software architecture strategies Automation of security activities in the product development cycle Investigation of the use of AI and compliance with ISO 26262 requirements The activity can begin from September 2026.
