As a departmental research institution of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, we examine and advise on the protection of people, the environment and property. Our activities in materials science, materials technology and chemistry focus on the technical safety of products and processes. The BAM junior research groups allow outstanding junior researchers from Germany and abroad to build their own independent junior research group at BAM. In addition to the indefinite body of the group leader*in with the option of beaming, the promotion of personnel and material resources covers up to EUR 2.5 million over 5 years. As part of the 2026 tender, BAM aims to establish a junior research group in the field of autonomous metallurgy with a focus on metallic solid systems. The proposed activities should focus on the optimization of microstructure, process and properties to address safety-relevant challenges in material design and processing. The focus is on data-driven material research and optimization, which is to be carried out in close cooperation with the research in the field of modelling, characterization and mechanical testing of the BAM material technology department. Successful candidates are expected to present a research vision with clear problems and examples of basic and application-oriented research directions.
