The children's and youth educational institution of the city of Cologne (Ki d S) is an overarching educational institution of youth assistance with around 380 educational staff. Around 1,100 children, young people and adults aged from 0 to 21 are cared for each year in groups and families.

The work in a recording group offers children aged 4 to 13 years, who cannot remain in their current environment due to crisis and emergency situations according to § 42 of the Eighth Book of Social Law (SGB VIII) and whose perspective must be clarified, a temporary protection space. In addition, there are two inclusive reception groups that include children and young people with disabilities aged 18 months to 17 years and 11 months.

• care for children educationally and ensure child protection.
• advise and accompany parents and legal representations.
• actively participate in team meetings and work on the conceptual development in the group.
• cooperate closely with the General Social Service (ASD) and actively participate in the development of perspectives from reception to mediation, transfer or dismissal.
• cooperate with the helpers, with the advisory team and other institutions (e.g. schools and daycare centres).
• prepare educational planning on the basis of the data and information provided by the Youth Office and prepare help plan discussions.
• implement participation structures in the group daily.
