Electrical engineering engineer in the field of hydrogen
The Fraunhofer Society is one of the world's leading organisations for application-oriented research. 75 institutes develop groundbreaking technologies for our economy and society – more precisely: 32 000 people from technology, science, administration and IT. You know, who comes to Fraunhofer wants and can change something. For yourself, for us and the markets of today and tomorrow. At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes reality every day. Our focus is on offshore wind energy, hydrogen, testing infrastructure and digitalization. More than 400 employees – around 100 of them – from more than 50 countries, work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams to develop innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and fuel economy, minimise risks and increase cost efficiency. Your tasks • Your profile • What we offer
You strengthen the group »HLB – Hydrogen Lab Bremerhaven« at the Bremerhaven site. Here we operate a hydrogen test field, in short HLB, with a large test infrastructure, with which we explore the interaction of wind turbines with electrolytic hydrogen generation. In order to investigate wind energy for its dynamic performance and integration into the energy system of tomorrow, we test electrolyzers, fuel cells and other components, both individually and in combination. Currently, the team consists of four employees and several students. Regardless of projects and backgrounds, we support each other. The open exchange and cooperation, also beyond team boundaries and locations, are particularly important to us. You perform tasks in the planning, construction and testing of electrical systems such as medium voltage, low voltage and converter systems in the field of hydrogen management. This includes advancing the technical integration of new test specimens by comparing interface data and planning, executing or coordinating the electrical connection. Depending on the test request, you take the vote with the local network operator and tune joint test projects with other IWES-internal groups. In future research and industrial projects, you plan conversions or plant expansions, coordinate companies and tenders for the execution and carry out both the commissioning and the operation itself through and/or monitors necessary steps. You are also part of the HLB and day-to-day business. This means that you can handle yourself by controlling converters and switchgear as well as searching for errors during the troubleshooting. In the future, you will receive a switching authorization so that you can support security issues relating to electrical engineering at HLB. In addition, you will create publications on our scientific findings and publish them in journals.
You have completed your Master's degree in electrical engineering or in a similar course. Maybe you did a training in electrical engineering before that? You know how to design and operate medium-voltage and low-voltage systems and what to consider? Maybe you're bringing experience in the operation of test benches? Super, then keep reading. If you have also gained experience in implementing EU projects, as a technical project manager, it would be great. Maybe you know the programming in Python? Great! But don't worry if your profile doesn't cover all fields yet. With us you can also master your career. We act on the IWES at an international level, which is why, besides German and English, you can make everyday work easier.
We support you on your individual career path. Be it personal, professional or methodical, we will find the appropriate training measures for you. It is also possible with us to do a doctorate independently. We're on your side! You want to introduce yourself to other topics and drive yourself forward issues? With us, you actively shape your task. Our open institute culture, mutual tolerance and respect help each person feel comfortable with us from the outset. For example, we promote this through our onboarding programme for new employees and through awareness and further education on the issues of diversity and equal opportunities. Because we firmly believe that diversity contributes decisively to our success. Come to us too and convince yourself! With our sliding and core work time system you can make your working day flexible. In addition, you have the opportunity to work mobile. You don't know in emergencies where to put your children? We'll support you with emergency care. Working discounts for events, clothing, holidays & Co. are you located? With us you can choose from a variety of offers and use them easily for you by app. For sustainable mobility, you can also make a job ticket from the German ticket. .
