The focus is on forest ecosystems and various animal groups, including insects, as well as interactions between animals, fungi and plants, as well as the importance of biodiversity for ecosystem processes.

Conducting ecological measurements, analyses and experiments in the laboratory and outdoor area to capture biodiversity (e.g. insects and fungi) Planning, construction and technical support of new test stands Extraction, preservation and treatment of environmental and organism samples Development, programming, construction and maintenance of the required measurement structures in cooperation with scientists carrying out ecological analyses using biotechnological methods and techniques, in particular DNA extraction, PCR, libraries and GCMS Support for administrative activities, in particular in the field of procurement, occupational safety and laboratory occupancy Technical preparation and reconditioning of laboratory and outdoor internships Support of assistants and students in all technical matters of the laboratory
