The Department of Economics develops market and industry data and analyses for the energy and water industry in order to create facts and arguments for the political discussion. These data and analyses are a basis for many decision-making processes in the economy, politics or individual companies. In this context, the department analyses and evaluates scenarios, trends and innovations, analyses and uses a wide range of data on energy and water supply and prepares them for politics, member companies and the public. This is done in close cooperation with official institutions, expert bodies, market and opinion research institutes and scientific institutions. The regular publications of the Department of Economics provide both the industry and politics and the public with up-to-date figures and facts.

The main focus of the activity is the independent processing of energy and economic policy issues and the preparation of analyses, in particular the observation and analysis of electricity, gas and district heating prices, but also in general on electricity and gas markets, renewable energies, energy transition, heat markets and mobility. Development and maintenance of automated data analyses with the help of script-based programming including data preprocessing, plausibility checks and graphical representations Analysis, monitoring and evaluation of surveys, studies and opinions Professional representation of interests towards political institutions Advice and support for BDEW's press and public relations work Support and cooperation in internal bodies and representation of the association to the outside Mediale preparation of topics, for example by BDEW publications, specialist articles, webinars and the conception of information and discussion events as well as the professional and content preparation of lectures/presentations

Successfully completed university studies (Diplom/Master); relevant professional or Industry experience, preferably in the energy or economic sectors, is advantageous Knowledge of energy-economic and political contexts and legislation as well as analytical and strategic thinking and good understanding of complex relationships and processes High data affinity and experience with the use and evaluation of databases and large data sets as well as programming knowledge in Python, R or comparable languages, ideally knowledge of Python packets Pandas and Matplotlib, in the care and structuring of SQL databases and in work with collaborative version control systems (git) Safe appearance, fun in independent work, negotiation skills, good oral and written expressiveness Ability to prepare technical topics for the political field in close and comprehensible, in writing and graphic Very good English knowledge in word and writing as well as very good knowledge of the common office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
