Number: MER0003Y09 In Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of the future. The sustainable design of vehicle components is an essential part of the development and contributes significantly to the achievement of the corporate strategy. A central regulatory driver is the ELV directive (end-of-life vehicles), which defines requirements for recyclability, recyclate use and material cycles of vehicles. In order to align future vehicle generations at an early stage, these requirements must be systematically prepared and converted into technical and material-side concepts. The focus of the Bachelor's thesis is on the conformation. In addition, interior components are also considered to develop a holistic and sustainable understanding of sustainability. The aim is to illustrate the regulatory requirements of the ELV directive in a comprehensible manner and to derive general, flexibly adaptable solutions for future vehicle concepts. The following topics will be dealt with as part of the Bachelor's thesis: Structured analysis and preparation of the ELV directive with focus on exterior and interior components deriving the relevant requirements for component and material design Comparing and evaluating different materials and recycling concepts with regard to CO2, recyclability and regulatory compliance Assessment of future recyclatability based on literature, studies and existing internal work Development of a sustainability concept for exterior and interior components The topics can be adapted and expanded in the course of the bachelor's thesis. The final topics will be discussed with the university, you and us. The activity can begin from March 2026.
