Lead DevOps Platform Engineer (m/f/d)

Multiannual practical experience as Tech Lead, Principal Engineer or Lead Platform Engineer in a product-oriented engineering organization, ideally with end-to-end responsibility for a developer platform on a public cloud. Deep technical know-how in the Google Cloud Platform (GKE, IAM, Networking, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Apigee) – or comparable sound experience on AWS/Azure. Proofable successes in design and operation of Kubernetes-based platforms on a large scale, including multi-cluster and multi-region setups. Safe handling of infrastructure as code (terraform) as well as modern cluster API and GitOps approaches such as Crossplane, Argo CD or Flux. Experience in designing a platform-as-a-product approach with Golden Paths, Self-Service capabilities and Developer Portals (e.g. Backstage). Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred), container security, secret management and observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Loki, Grafana). confidentiality with hybrid cloud topologies and event-driven integration patterns; Plus: Experience with SAP integration landscapes (SAP Integration Suite, S/4HANA). Embossed architectural judgment – You bring speed, governance, vendor-lock-in and total cost of ownership in real trade-offs in line. You guide Engineers professionally, accompany them across all levels of experience and set clear quality standards with Code Reviews, RFCs and Architecture Decision Records. Excellent communication with stakeholders from engineering, security, business and external partners – You are moving in a sovereign manner between C-level presentation and code review with developers on the same day. English is required in a reliable manner; German or Romanian knowledge is a plus.

You are responsible for the technical vision and target architecture of our new GCP-based DevOps Platform, anchored in the platform-as-a-product principles of self-service, repeatability and governance. You shape the SAP integration architecture on the GCP site – hybrid in real time (Pub/Sub, Apigee) and in the batch (Dataflow, BigQuery) – in close cooperation with the SAP Integration Specialist and the SAP Public cloud teams. You shape how the platform team meets architecture decisions in Bucharest and Ulm, RFCs lives and sets technical standards. You act as a senior technical counterpart to the Head of Platform, translate the platform strategy into concrete engineering roadmaps and represent the platform in technology and IT strategy discussions. You will accompany and develop the platform team in Bucharest and Ulm – together with the developer experience colleagues, make sure Golden Paths solve real developer problems. You drive the cultural change from strict dev/ops separation to DevOps teams with end-to-end responsibility – supported by a strong platform and clear interfaces.
