Data & Information Law is the central authority of BWI for all matters of national and international data and information law. As part of the Data Privacy Office, the department is responsible for the central strategic orientation of BWI at the interface between regulatory requirements and the core business of BWI as IT service providers. Data & Information Law sets the legal framework for the entire organization and develops efficient strategies that ensure the proper implementation of legal requirements and bring them into a careful balance with the performance of the BWI. One of the core functions of Data & Information Law is the legal advice of BWI's business functions and the representation of the organization in legally complex cases. .

Legal assessment of technical and economic circumstances – e.g. from software development, data analysis and artificial intelligence
Negotiation and conclusion of long-term contracts with customers, suppliers/contractors in the field of data and information law
Examination of licenses and license conditions both in relation to the customer and to service providers (end-to-end), including the Open Source theme
Examination of brand-law issues as well as patent applications and ensuring compliance with legal requirements
