FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure GmbH is one of the leading institutions for scientific information and information infrastructure in Germany with high national and international visibility. Together with the commercial managing director, you take over the overall business responsibility for FIZ Karlsruhe. The joint management includes the strategic and operational management of the Institute, its external representation, reporting to shareholders and the Supervisory Board, as well as the responsibility for earnings. You are responsible for the scientific orientation of the institute and develop a sustainable overall strategy based on the existing competencies and potentials. You combine scientific excellence with the requirements of an internationally visible, research-based information infrastructure service provider. You design the strategic development of the research and activity fields of FIZ Karlsruhe. You drive forward the research-based development of innovative products and services and ensure that scientific knowledge is successfully transferred to efficient, demand-oriented and sustainable information services. The use of artificial intelligence is strategic and responsible. You strengthen the national and international visibility of FIZ Karlsruhe, develop cooperation with leading research institutions, universities and other partners from science, business and politics and initiate new strategic cooperations. You represent the Institute in the German, European and international research and information infrastructure landscape. At the same time, you engage in the relevant scientific-political networks and actively contribute the interests and competencies of FIZ Karlsruhe to the scientific and social discourse. You promote technology and knowledge transfer, develop the third-party funding strategy and create appropriate framework conditions for the successful initiation and implementation of complex, interdisciplinary research and development projects. You are responsible for the valuable, binding and targeted management and further development of the scientific areas and their employees. You promote a culture that combines scientific excellence, self-responsibility, cooperation, willingness to innovate and strong service orientation. Together with the commercial managing director, you will design the organizational further development of FIZ Karlsruhe. You initiate and accompany necessary change processes and ensure that structures, competencies and resources are consistently aligned with the Institute's strategic objectives.

An excellent, future-oriented scientific profile and many years of experience in application-oriented research and development in an area relevant to FIZ Karlsruhe. Multiannual experience in a management position, preferably in an out-of-university research institution, a university or another publicly funded institution. Additional (leading) experiences from the sector of the economy are welcome. Embossed leadership and management competencies, coupled with enforcing ability, decision strength and willingness to design. Transformation competence combined with excellent communicative skills and sovereign appearance. Proofably successful expertise in technology and knowledge transfer. Very good knowledge of German, European and international research and infrastructure as well as current scientific and digital policy developments Experience in the acquisition of public and private third-party funds.
