Number: MER00049LF In today's vehicle development process, the protection of the vehicle with regard to corrosion protection is primarily based on test-related investigations and the expertise of experienced employees. In the Surface & Corrosion Protection Unit, therefore, a numerical simulation of the corrosion process is developed in the course of digitization. The simulation is intended to quickly, efficiently and correlate the influence of corrosion on components and vehicles with the aid of numerical methods. A large number of experimental investigations are carried out as part of the simulation development, the results of which are used as input or validation variables. These include the performance and evaluation of corrosion tests on real components, electrochemical measurements on test specimens and the investigation of the influence of corrosion products on the corrosion process.
