At the Institute of Applied Materials – Applied Materials Physics (IAM-AWP) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, laser processes are developed in industrial projects for the self-setting and optimization of battery components. These are used to provide the next generation of lithium-ion batteries for applications in the mobility and for stand-alone energy storage. At the IAM-AWP, the entire cell manufacturing technique is covered, starting from the material selection for the electrical production to electrochemical characterization and post-mortem analyses. As part of the BMFTR ProPowerSafe project, you will be able to advance the development of laser-based methods for the production of 3D electrode architectures for high energy/high power batteries in close cooperation with industry. One focus is on the high scaling of the laser process in the roll-to-roll (R2R) method. Suitable process strategies as well as optical beam guidance concepts for multi-beam processing are to be established in order to optimize surface treatment rates for the industrial environment. The processed 3D electrodes are to be characterized by material-analytical and electrochemical methods in different cell formats. Post-mortem analyses ultimately serve to identify possible degradation mechanisms with the aim of further optimising the electrical architecture with regard to performance and cell safety. There is a possibility for a professional doctorate.
A completed technical or scientific university degree (Master), preferably the subject of mechanical engineering, physics or material science and materials engineering Good knowledge of German and English (word and writing)
Part of the only German university of excellence with national research and work in an international environment under excellent working conditions. Start professionally with a targeted incorporation as well as wide range of further qualification offers. Benefit from flexible working time models (Gleitzeit, Homeoffice), various sports and leisure activities as well as child and holiday care offers. We also offer a grant to the BW Job Ticket, amounting to 25 €/month and a versatile offer in different menses. We aim to achieve the most uniform possible occupation of jobs with employees (w/m/d) and would therefore be particularly pleased with women's applications. In the case of the same suitability, people with difficulty are recognised. .
