Research Assistant at the Department of Mathematics (m/f/d)

The Department of Mathematics, together with the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, belongs to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of RWTH Aachen. For many years, RWTH Aachen has been educating mathematics teachers for the school forms Gymnasium/Total School as well as vocational college, which represent a good one-third of the students in this field. The science-oriented and career-related study programme is continuously further developed and emphasised on mentoring. The teaching and research area Didactics of Mathematics works in a variety of fields of mathematics-didactic teaching, research and development and offers for schools, students and teachers. In teaching, we are responsible for the entire mathematic-didactic training part and cooperate closely with the entire subject group mathematics as well as with the didactics of other subjects as well as other educational institutions. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. Your duties The following tasks await you:

• Teaching of 8 SWS. Of which 1 SWS in the form of plenary offers of mentoring, the rest in the field of mathematics teaching and practical orientation for incoming mathematic teachers, in particular in the intensive master events
• (further)Development and offer of teaching concepts according to the recommendations of the Science Council on Teacher Education Mathematics, in particular. Professionalization
• Individual support of students especially during the periods of study and practice, support of mathematics-didactic masterpieces
• Participation in mathematicdidactic development, in particular as part of the course development for the Department of Mathematics
• All facets of a mentoring faculty Mathematics: individual and in groups; proactive and in case of problems; cross-linking, advisory, supportive, suitable for further transfer
• Participation in the overall offer Mentoring of the specialist group as required and allocation by the specialist group management
• Maintaining the interfaces to other training phases, consultancy and support bodies, as well as across-the-box apprenticeships, participation in teaching-related specialist group activities

Your profile Required are:

• Complete university degree course Mathematics (Master or comparable)
• Second state exam in the Department of Mathematics or a completed doctorate, preferably in the Didactics of Mathematics
• well-founded technical and technical knowledge in mathematics
• Experience in academic teaching and/or close contact points, preferably in the field of mathematics teaching
• Experience as a mathematician in school practice and/or close contact points, both including upper secondary
• Interest in mathematicaldidactic research and development
• High communicative skills, team and networking skills
• high level of empathy and reflectivity
• Rethinking and high self-sufficiency in tasks
• Very good knowledge of the German language in word and writing
• Willingness to participate in the offer “Lehren an der RWTH” by Excellent Academic Teaching at the Center for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS) The following are required:

The employment is in the employment relationship. The place is to be occupied at 01.08.2026 and indefinitely. It is a full-time job. Participation in two parttime jobs (50%) is possible under certain conditions. The grouping depends on the TV-L. The place is rated with EG 13 TV-L. The job description is aimed at all sexes.
