THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

As a Principal Software Engineer in Application Security, you will play a key role in ensuring the security of our applications, services and AI models. You will work in a dynamic environment, on the line between the responsible engineering teams and security, ensuring a security-by-design approach and ensuring security is being taken into account throughout the software development lifecycle. We are looking for experienced technical expert who will be part of Application Security’s leadership team and influence the security architecture of Zalando and a larger engineering organisation through collaboration.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Design and implement scalable, resilient solutions, ownership of solutions for new projects in the application security.

Actively engage in hands-on development for core components, integration points or for showcasing solutions via POCs with the purpose of unblocking teams and of paving the technical ways forward.

Lead the analysis of complex software systems, identifying potential vulnerabilities, security risks, resiliency related issues and suggest comprehensive mitigation strategies.

Facilitate technical alignment and decision making across multiple teams.

Drive the adoption of advanced security tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve overall security posture.

Improve application security through automation and platform capabilities that follow the secure-by-design approach.

Consult and collaborate with cross-functional teams and other Principal Engineers across the company to integrate security considerations into all stages of the software development lifecycle.

Mentor and grow software engineers.

WHY LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

You have 6+ years of experience in software engineering with significant hands-on expertise in applications development and security.

You possess fluency in at least one programming language.

You have experience with modern API design practices, distributed systems, event driven architectures and data pipelines.

You have strong knowledge of application security, cloud security, security by design and secure software development lifecycle practices

You have excellent communication skills and can interact teams across to integrate security into broader engineering initiatives.

You have broad experience in software engineering or a related field, giving you insight into large-scale engineering projects and their security challenges.
