Training as a geomatics technician

We are the Federal Office for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) and take care that the institutions of the Federation, such as federal police and technical assistance, are constantly supplied with reliable, highly topical geodata and solutions. With more than 400 employees, we make an important contribution to addressing the enormous challenges facing the environment, climate, security, transport and spatial planning, and are constantly driving forward geodigitalisation in the federal government. You want to know how satellite navigation works? Are you interested in weather forecast and climatology? Then do one Education Federal Office for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) for Geomatics or Geomatics

You capture, create, process and visualize geodata to create maps, presentation graphics or multimedia applications. You get to know geoinformation systems and how to use them properly. You carry out orders using geodata customer-oriented. Using modern measurement methods, you can pick up objects outside in nature and record changes. Recovered data and cleanse yourself and make it available for further processing. During your training, you will not only gain insights into specialist areas and other services of the BKG, but also learn about the activities of the German Weather Service (DWD) through our training cooperation. In the case of a multi-week internship in Limburg an der Lahn, the training topics of the survey are deepened. We offer you an interesting and versatile training in the team in a modern service authority, a training fee in accordance with the collective agreement for trainees of the public service and a final premium in the event of a successful final examination.

Geomatikerinnen und Geomatiker operate exactly, perseveringly and concentrated – just like you. Basic requirements for successful training are good general education, a well-founded mathematical understanding and interest in geography. There is no prescribed school leaving, all good qualifications are welcome. At least satisfactory grades in mathematics and German (at least sufficient at the gymnasium).

4 apprentices are starting training. August 2027. 3 years of training in a state-recognized training occupation by the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). Practical training at the BKG headquarters, Richard-Strauss-Allee 11, 60598 Frankfurt. Vocational training in Kassel (Arnold-Bode-Schule, Blockunterricht). Support for housing. A selection test is expected to take place in spring 2027. The test is carried out exclusively on site in Frankfurt a. M. Application deadline for the 2027 training year: 15. February 2027
