Scientist for Emittance Diagnostics at DESY
For our location in Hamburg we are seeking: Scientist for Emittance Diagnostics at DESY Limited: 2 years with the option of permanent employment | Start: 01.04.2026 | ID: MMA010/2026 | Deadline: 12.03.2026 | Full-time/Part-time DESY, with more than 2900 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists. DESY operates the world's brightest storage-ring-based hard X-ray radiation source PETRA III which offers scientists outstanding opportunities for experiments with X-rays of exceptionally high brilliance since 2009. In order to keep up with increasing demand for high brightness, DESY is currently undertaking to develop a diffraction-limited light source PETRA IV. The appropriate preparatory work has to be done over the next few years which will include a very challenging design of beam diagnostics and instrumentation. The MDI (Machine, Diagnostics and Instrumentation) group is responsible for development and conception of electronical, mechanical, and (electro-)optical monitors which are used for the observation of particle beams with differing characteristics at the DESY accelerator facilities.
