Research Assistant - PostDoc Einstein Telescope (m/f/d)

The Physical Institute III B of the RWTH Aachen University is looking for a scientific assistant (w/m/d) as part of the Einstein telescope experiment. Our Institute and the Department of Physics at RWTH Aachen provide a living community of particle, astroparticle and gravity wave physicists who play a leading role in experiments such as the Einstein telescope Gravitational Wave Detector. ETpathfinder is a joint laboratory for research, development and validation of new technologies for the Einstein telescope. Based on a complete interferometer configuration, ETpathfinder aims to perform length measurements in the range of thousandths of a proton diameter, which requires a progress over the prior art in a variety of areas, including optics, sensors, lasers, materials, cryogenic cooling, vibration damping, vacuum and controls. As part of the job, you will participate in the ETpathfinder Smart Skills Lab project, a new initiative that aims to offer companies and industrial partners training on technologies and skills related to ETpathfinder and the Einstein telescope. These trainings are offered in particular to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Flanders and the South of the Netherlands (Limburg and Noord Brabant). The ETpathfinder Smart Skills Lab is an initiative of 17 academic and educational partners from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. You will be part of a group of 11 ETpathfinder technology experts who initially work with the ETpathfinder team for 12 months to be trained in the ETpathfinder facility in Maastricht. You will then develop training modules and run them (online and practical) for SMEs. You work closely with the ETpathfinder team (consisting of more than 20 research institutes and universities from 7 countries) and the ETpathfinder Smart Skills Lab Team. You will also participate in the activities of the international Einstein-Teleskop cooperation and work in academic teaching. The location of this full-time job is the Physical Institute III B of RWTH Aachen.

We are looking for an employee with a completed university degree (master or comparable) as well as a completed doctorate in physics or a related field. Experience with the technologies of gravity wave detectors is desirable. The ability to work in an international research environment is expected, including good English knowledge.

The employment is in the employment relationship. The place shall be occupied at the next possible time and shall be limited to 2 years. In the case of the approval of the Einstein telescope in the NL-B-D border region, further employment is sought. The temporary employment is carried out within the framework of the time-limits of the science-time contract law. It is a full-time job. The grouping depends on the TV-L.
