Supplier: Chair of Sustainable Raw Material Recovery and Institute of Raw Material Engineering The subject of research and teaching by the Institute of Mineral Resources Engineering (MRE) is the sustainable extraction of raw materials – from the exploration and evaluation of deposits, to the technology and organization of mines, to commodity markets. Our pursuit is the overall knowledge of resources. The institute employs personalities with an engineering and geoscientific background. Student assistants with diverse backgrounds support us in a variety of tasks. Staff from the field of technology and administration as well as efficient administration complete our team. The Institute is integrated into the Faculty of Geo Resources and Materials Technology and is a key part of the Sustainable Raw Materials and Energy Supply Programme. We are looking for a personality to participate in a third-party project “Transformation of the value chain in graphite mining (Transgraph)” funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Graphite is a key raw material for decarbonizing the economy and society. Due to the associated geopolitical supply risks and the immense importance of graphite for renewable energy technologies, the mineral of large economies is classified as a critical raw material. In view of future graphite demand, there is an urgent need for sound scientific and technological knowledge about graphite resources and their mining and processing potential. The aim of this project is to examine these aspects of natural graphite deposits completely within a junior research group (5 persons) consisting of young scientists from other disciplines (processing, mining technology). Thus, the project is conducted in close cooperation with the teaching and research area technologies for the preparation of mineral raw materials (renewal group management) and the Institute for Advanced Mining Technologies, RWTH Aachen University, as well as with partners from industry and science in Germany, Brazil and Kazakhstan. Implementation of the third-party funding project “Transgraph” in close cooperation with young scientists and project partners. Use of geoscientific laboratory equipment (XRF, XRD, CT, pXRF, pLIBS, pIR). Innovative characterization of graphite samples. Participation in the use of digital teaching infrastructure (woodogram tables, simulators, VR mines, digital excursions, online mineralogical collection). Participation in the supervision and implementation of courses at RWTH. Publication of the project results in journals and at conferences in German and English. Organizational and administrative tasks for the chair.

Your profile Your personal requirements include: Above-average university degree (master or comparable) in the field of geochemistry, mineralogy, geology, applied geosciences, or raw material engineering, and mining suitability according to §2 GesBergV. Knowledge and experience with geoscientific laboratory methods (especially mineralogical and geochemical analysis). Interest in the characterization of deposits and deposits of mineral raw materials. High commitment, creativity, inventiveness, organisational talent, team spirit, strategic action and a strong interest in in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching and research. Ready to travel (for workshops and conferences, off-road work and walking of mines and mine sites). Interest in the training of students. Very good English (C1) and German knowledge (C2) are expected as part of the preparation and implementation of courses. Applicants with already completed doctorate are not addressed.

The employment is in the employment relationship. The place shall be occupied at the next possible time and shall be limited to 3 years. The temporary employment is carried out within the framework of the time-limits of the science-time contract law. It is a part-time job with three quarters of regular weekly working time.
