Job ID: MER00043NK In our Logistics Engineering Technologies & Advanced Logistics team, we work at ARENA2036 on the campus of the University of Stuttgart on pioneering robotics solutions for intralogistics. As part of an ongoing research project, we are developing a flexible bin-picking system together with partners from industry and research. As an internal on our team, you will support the operation and further development of one of our mobile robotic demonstrators. Your tasks will include: Operation, maintenance, and support of the demonstrator during test campaigns and demonstrations

Extension and maintenance of the state machine orchestrating the robot's behavior

Maintenance and improvement of the motion planning stack

Integration of additional hardware and software components into the overall system

Contributing to the ROS2, MQTT, and REST interfaces between the system's components

We offer you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art robotics hardware and modern software stacks in a collegial team with flexible working hours and deep insights into an innovative research project. The internship can begin in August 2026.

Currently enrolled student in computer science, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a comparable study program (mandatory)

Solid programming skills in Python and C++

Practical experience with ROS2 and ideally the MoveIt motion planning framework

Basic theoretical understanding of robotics fundamental search as kinematics, coordinate transformations, and motion planning

A strong interest in robotics, especially in manipulation, bin-picking, or collaborative robotics

Comfortable working in a Linux-based environment and familiar with Git for version control

Familiarity with Docker and experience with state machines is a plus

Familiarity with MQTT, REST APIs, or robot visualization tooling (e.g., RViz) is a plus

Hands-on experience with cobots, depth cameras, AGV platforms, or grippers from previous projects is a plus, but not required

Very good communication skills in English; English is a strong plus but not required

Team player with a hands-on mindset
