The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerator systems for science. The new FAIR plant (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) is currently being built in international cooperation, one of the largest research projects worldwide. The Experimental Electronics department supports and advises experiments and projects of GSI/FAIR in all tasks relevant to electronics. This relates, inter alia, to the selection of the detectors, data acquisition, data analysis and monitoring and control of detectors and detector systems. The department supports and advises scientists on the use, application and development of the latest technologies. Work on a state-of-the-art equipping machine for very demanding and high-quality printed circuit boards for prototypes as well as small series in the research area Self-employed and self-responsive maintenance of production orders, i.e. all steps of fitting: starting with the programming of the SMD assembly machine via the template printing of the soldering paste, as well as the quality control of the paste printing and the finished circuit boards using an AOI system Cooperation in the technology selection and procurement of state-of-the-art PCBs, templates and soldering pastes Use of a laser cutter for cutting blanks Working for repairs of modules using computer-assisted rework systems, as well as hand soldering (currently up to 0201 (imp.) components) Development of new methods for secure soldering of very small and unusual components Working together with the developers of the department on the further development of production Guidance and work organisation of student assistants Self-organization of the production of individual projects in close consultation with colleagues.

Complete training as a technician or multiannual professional experience in electronics manufacturing Experience with machine-assisted (and manual) soldering (e.g. rework systems) willingness and ability to work on projects both individually and in the team.
