Trainee Scientific Documentalist (m/f/d)

Scientific documentaries (m⁠/⁠w⁠/⁠d) are information specialists and support the programs and editorial staff at Bayerischer Rundfunk with their knowledge and skills. The aim of the two-year training is to learn, expand and deepen the theoretical and practical foundations for a successful work as a scientific documentary in a media company.

While practical cooperation in the Music Service department is at the forefront of the first year of training, the second year of training takes place at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Mediencampus Dieburg) in several blocks and ends after a successful project work with the conclusion as a Scientific Documentary / Information Specialist (m⁠/⁠w⁠/⁠d).

Two central areas of application: You work in the Music Service department both in the Music Archives and in the Music Documentation department – with a focus on archiving, research and advice on music materials and recordings Hands-on with IT & (meta)data: You use a variety of IT tools and databases every day and take over (meta)data management for music collections and recordings Search-Skills on Pro-Level: You learn professional research techniques for music and sheet music, work intensively with our internal information systems and advise our archive users Operational collaboration: You archive and document music recordings and music output Design the future: You actively participate in the development of workflows to manage purely digitally existing scores and test matching software and hardware solutions View behind all the scenes: You are hoping for further archives and information areas as well as in music editors and production areas (e.g. sound bodies) and thus gains an overview of the information management of the BR

Graduate degree (Master degree or equivalent) Very good music skills incl. Reading notes, musical illustration Experience from cultural / orchestral operation or first professional experience in the archive area desirable Embossed IT affinity and interest in modern media use (e.g. platforms for digital notes) Data Science knowledge and first programming experiences, like in Python, are of advantage readiness for deepened integration into database systems and metadata schemes and standards Basic knowledge of music and copyright Openness and interest for the programs of Bayerischer Rundfunk Ability to quickly work on complex topics, structure content and think analytically Communication, service and team skills
