About the Children's Hospital

The University Children's Hospital covers the diagnosis and therapy of children of all ages in a variety of diseases, development disorders or malformations.

In children's studies I – general paediatrics, haematology and oncology – children and young people are treated with cancer diseases in addition to the general paediatrics. The clinic is internationally leading in the execution of stem cell transplants in leukemia, in particular the haploid variant, in which parents can be used as donors. Other focuses are allergy and asthma, endocrinology, gastroenterology, CF, organ transplants and rheumatism.

The focus of our Department of Pediatrics II – Child Cardiology, Pulmology, Intensive Medicine – is the care of infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired diseases of the heart, circulation and lungs. In addition, our department includes the interdisciplinary intensive care unit of the clinic for children and youth medicine. In the care of children and adolescents with heart diseases, our department works very closely together with the other departments of the Children's Hospital, the Department of Thorax, Heart and Vascular Surgery and the Department of Cardiology and Circular Diseases of the Medical Clinic.

Our Department of Pediatrics III – Neuropaediatrics, Developmental Ecology, Social Paediatrics – supports children and young people of all ages with acute and chronic diseases. Our focus is on neurological disorders and developmental disorders, but also on childhood diabetes and general paediatric disorders. As one of Germany's largest perinatal centres, we offer a dedicated, human care of healthy and ill newborns and their parents in a family-centric approach. We provide early-borns with a lot of experience and intensive care. Every little earlyborn has fixed references. Our treatment results are among the best worldwide. We also specialize in the care of children with respiratory disorders, e.g. due to abortions. In this case, competent care is ensured through close cooperation with our children's sleep medicine and the center for lip-kiefer-gaumen columns and coronary malformations.

Our Department of Children's Medicine V – Children's Surgery and Children's Anthropology – offers children of all ages – from early-born to young patients – the entire range of services of child-surgical and child-orological care. In this context, state-of-the-art minimally invasive methods play a decisive role in a variety of diseases and malformations.

An essential credo of our work is interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments at the clinic and supra-regional. For children's oncology in Germany, we serve as a reference centre for liver and kidney tumors as well as for neuroblastomas and soft tissue sarcoma.
