With OpenFOAM or Flow‐3D you analyze laser beam welding processes in detail and gain sound, simulation-based insights. In addition, you integrate these highly developed CFD models into holistic digital process chains, creating the basis for predictive control and targeted optimization of welding parameters and strategies. Design, evaluate and drive innovations in laser beam welding actively on the basis of your simulation results. This makes a significant contribution to continuous process optimization and to solving real industrial issues. Your doctorate theme will be your own and content by publishing your research results in renowned, internationally reviewed journals and presenting them at relevant scientific conferences. You bring your expertise into close cooperation with industrial partners and leading research institutions.

Education: excellent university degree (master or diploma) in physics, mechanical engineering or comparable degree Experiences and know-how: profound experience with CFD simulations, especially using OpenFOAM or Flow3D solid understanding of material theory and numerical methods Knowledge of laser material processing, in particular laser welding of metallic materials safe handling of MS Office good programming knowledge (Python, C++ or comparable) first experience in using AI tools
