I take responsibility for the safe operation and the continuous development of the Compute & Storage environments at 50Hertz.

This makes the job interesting for me: As an innovation driver in the energy industry, 50Hertz is driving the integration of renewable energies. The extensive network expansion cannot be realized without the provision of IT infrastructure and networks. As part of an international IT infrastructure team, I can make a significant contribution to this. In my role as a system engineer, I drive the transfer of knowledge independently.

We are 50Hertz - one of the four transmission system operators in Germany. Together with the Belgian electricity grid operator Elia (Brussels), we form the internationally active Elia Group. At 50Hertz, over 2,100 people work to ensure that current flows reliably, low-loss and optimally controlled at all times over long distances. As a TSO, we play a central role in the realization of the energy transition in a social, technical and economic sense. Our goal: By 2032 we want to integrate 100 percent renewable energy safely and affordable into the grid and system. Architecture

Design and continuous development of our on-premise infrastructure for virtualization (VMware) services and storage and backup (Netapp), developing a GitOps-based system management, Identification of technology updates and their added value and inclusion in the technology roadmap, assessing the performance and compliance of implemented systems and performing regular audits and taking necessary architectural adaptations; Training and mentoring of other IT team members in terms of architecture and design principles.

Operation

multi-zone implementation and management of VMware and storage infrastructures, Ensuring the high-availability of the landscape by working on the Incident-Resolution Process as part of the 3rd-level support (24/7-readiness to leave for about 4 weeks), Creation and maintenance of playbooks for the automation of standard tasks such as deployments, patching, compliance checks based on Ansible. My competencies

completed studies or vocational training in the field of (economic) computer science or a comparable subject, expertise and professional experience in IT architecture and design principles for the largest VMware virtualization environments, knowledge of the development and management of storage and data backup solutions based on NetApp and Brocade, knowledge in the area of central server hardware management, deep knowledge of GitOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with experience in relevant tools such as Git, Ansible, Python and RestAPI, knowledge of the management of supplier relations, contracts and licenses, expressed understanding of and for security and compliance rules, Language knowledge: German (C1), English (min. B1).

No need, but of advantage:

Certifications for Netapp and VMware management.
