PhD in Quantum Computing for Material Simulations
Оccupation: Physicist
Welcome to Bosch At Bosch, we are shaping the future with high-quality technologies and services that awaken enthusiasm and improve people's lives. Our promise to our employees is rock-proof: we grow together, enjoy our work and inspire each other. Welcome to Bosch. Robert Bosch GmbH is looking forward to an application!
Description Quantencomputing offers a transformative approach to material simulation by potentially performing quantum mechanical calculations by orders of magnitude faster and more precisely than classic methods on conventional high-performance computers. This allows true computer-assisted design of novel materials and paves the way for solutions to global challenges in the field of sustainability and renewable energies. This can revolutionize various areas by allowing for example the improvement of catalytic processes and a deeper, atomistic understanding of material degradation. These advances provide the basis for knowledge-based optimization of load, process and operating conditions in devices such as fuel cells, which ultimately reduces our dependence on scarce, environmentally harmful and expensive materials. The focus of the PhD is on the development and evaluation of hybrid, quantum-classic simulation workflows for the simulation of industrially relevant materials on timely available quantum computers. As a doctoral student, you will:
- Develop and implement hybrid quantum classic algorithms for material simulation.
- Design and perform experiments to test and validate these algorithms on quantum computing platforms.
- Working with interdisciplinary teams to integrate quantum computing methods with classic simulation tools.
- Analyze and interpret simulation results to gain insights into material properties and behaviour.
- Document your research results and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
- Take part in regular meetings and discussions to share progress and receive feedback.
Qualifications
- Education: Excellent university degree in physics, chemistry or computer science with deepening in theoretical solid state physics, quantum mechanics, quantum computing or similar fields
- Personality: Self-motivated, curious, creative, open to new and team capable
- Working style: independent, targeted and logical thinking
- Experiences and competencies: Knowledge and experience in the fields of density functional theory, stroke bard models or quantum algorithms are advantageously but not absolutely necessary, excellent communication skills, programming experience (e.g., python, Fortran, C)
- Languages: excellent English knowledge in word and writing, German knowledge of advantage but not absolutely necessary
