Professorship in One Health, Animal Hygiene, and Animal Disease Control (W3)

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine seeks to fill the mentioned above professorship at the immediately:

Academic context Founded in 1409, the University of Leipzig is one of Germany's largest, most research-intensive and leading medical universities. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine serves as a centre for interdisciplinary research in the fields of animal health, veterinary public health, public health and One Health.

The Institute of Animal Hygiene and Public Veterinary Services is a member of the Centre for Veterinary Public Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It has modern BSL-2 (Biosafety Level 2) laboratory facilities, an interdisciplinary research environment and a wide-ranging international network.

Future Duties The professorship is responsible for representing the field of animal hygiene and animal disease control in teaching [in accordance with § 32 "Animal husbandry and animal hygiene" and § 39 "Animal disease control and infectious disease epidemiology" of the Ordinance on the Licensing of Veterinarians (Regulation on the Approbation of Veterinarians – TAppV)], research and services. In the subject of animal disease control, teaching is carried out in cooperation with the Centre for Infectious Diseases (ZIM). The professorship is therefore responsible for managing the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Veterinary Public Health.

The professorship is expected to enhance the convergence's research profile, especially the One Health approach, and to focus on the rapid detection and containment of infectious diseases in animals, animal epidemics and zoonoses (Pandemic Preparedness). A teaching and research concept demonstrate the relevance of the planned projects to the research priorities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and other university institutions should be submitted with the application.

Requirements In addition to in-depth knowledge of classical animal hygiene combined with modern, technology-based strategies for disease control, outstanding research and publication achievements, especially in the fields of animal hygiene and/or infection epidemiology, experience in teaching and the successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding, especially international joint research projects are expected. Extensive experience in teaching and postgraduate education continuing and training, experience in personnel management and development are required. Proof of a veterinary licence and approval as a veterinary specialist for animal hygiene or in a relevant field, as well as proof of a postdoctoral qualification or equivalent achievements, must be provided.
