The High Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart (HLRS) is Germany's first Federal High Performance Computing Centre. It operates one of the fastest supercomputers in the world and offers universities and research institutions as well as industrial partners the use of high performance computers. In addition, the HLRS has a leading position in the research areas of parallel computing, cloud computing and high-performance data analysis worldwide and is a key part of international and national research projects. The HLRS coordinates several EU projects, including EuroCC 3, with the aim of further developing a European network of national competence centres (NCCs) for HPC. The HLRS thus contributes significantly to the implementation of the European HPC strategy, which promotes the wider use of HPC technologies and services in all Member States. Within the EuroCC 3 project, HLRS is also head of the German National Competence Center (SIDE – Supercomputing in Germany), which acts as a central point of contact for coordination, user support and knowledge exchange in the field of high performance computing (HPC) and ensures coordination of national activities with European strategies and infrastructures. To support the coordination of our funded research projects, in particular the management of the German National Competence Centre (SIDE), we are looking for a period of time up to 31.03.2029 Research manager:in with focus User Needs Analysis (m/w/d, up to TV-L 13, 75%, limited,) HLRS_11_2026 to strengthen our project team in the Project Controlling & Management Office (PMCO) department of HLRS.

In cooperation with the HLRS project team, you monitor the successful, timely execution of the HLRS's work within the framework of the EuroCC 3 project, and in particular take over the leadership of the German National Competence Center. The advertised body includes the independent planning, administrative and technical control, and monitoring of SIDE, including the analysis and preparation of the project results and the project progress. Project management and implementation: ensuring and maintaining appropriate project management structures and bodies, including risk and conflict management within the SIDE consortium, as well as scientific support for all SIDE activities. Central interface between SIDE and EuroCC 3. Monitoring and quality management: Leading responsibility for reporting and continuous monitoring of project progress with regard to EuroCC 3 (resources, deadlines, milestones). Management and auditing of administrative documents such as contracts, cost accounting, interim and progress reports. Monitoring and evaluation of project data and scientific preparation of project results. Communication: Management of project-internal communication, including the organization of project-internal meetings and communication with externals. Coordination of communication with EuroCC 3 and CASTIEL 3. User needs analysis: Continuous and systematic demand analysis of existing and potential target groups of the German National Competence Center and regular review of the effectiveness of the offer and ongoing monitoring of the service portfolio.

You have a university degree (master or equivalent) in computer science, computer science, engineering or a related field. You have demonstrable experience in the management of (research)projects as well as pronounced coordination skills. You work largely independently, responsibly and pragmatically. You have excellent technical communication skills, both in writing and oral, for cooperation with internal and external stakeholders. You have sound skills in the structured analysis and processing of complex data. You communicate convincingly and are a pronounced organizational talent. You are team-ready, compromising and prove fingertip feeling in dealing with people. You have very good knowledge of German and English and can always translate them into professional texts and use them safely for communication with third parties (telephone, e-mail, official correspondence). You use routined the common office software (MS Office), but also project management tools (e.g.: Trello, ConceptBoard etc.) are not unknown for them. You have an open but certain appearance and are resilient. You have conceptual thinking and have a solution-oriented and targeted way of working. Your profile is ideally complemented by: Experience gained in the collection and analysis of user requirements (e.g. interviews, workshops, surveys, focus groups, context analyses). You have experience in using agile management concepts. You have experience in the leadership of/or integration of interdisciplinary teams as well as international project experience. You possess detectable skills in effective conflict management. You have the ability to analyze content and results to plan foresight.
