In this responsible position, you conduct a research group and work at the interface of science and application. Your area of responsibility includes: Initiation, application and implementation of GreenShipping research projects, in particular AI-based maritime navigation systems. Development of innovative and applied concepts for funding applications using AI algorithms and models for Ship Navigation, Ship Condition Monitoring and Maritime Infrastructure. Construction and coaching of an acquisition group “AI in Navigation” in close cooperation with the scientific director Prof. Dr.‐Ing. Christian Denker. Preparation of group reports and evaluations as well as preparation of research and studies. Compilation of research reports on activities in relevant bodies (IMO, IALA, ITU, DCSA, BIMCO, DGON, MCN, GMT, Subcommittee of Navigation, etc.) and participants to be researched. Publication and presentation of your research results at conferences, journals and congresses. Participation in match-making events, conferences and workshops. Administrative and management tasks in the project, including reporting, coordination of administrative tasks, planning and organisation of trade fairs, meetings, events and workshops.

Completed academic studies (Master or Diploma [Uni]) in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related technical course, preferably with reference to navigation. Completed doctoral thesis in a relevant field. Evidence of experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and research projects (e.g. DFG, EU, industrial partners). Experience in the production of applications and concepts. Experience in the research and development of AI applications in navigation or a related area. Skills in the programming of AI algorithms and models (e.g. with C++, Java, Python). Experience in performing simulation and test series for AI-based systems. Good knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of research results. Excellent knowledge of German and English in word and writing. Experience in cooperation with other researchers and industrial partners. Good knowledge of time and priorities. Ability to independent and transparent scientific work, self-initiative, organizational talent, team skills and leadership experience. Ready for occasional business trips in Germany and abroad. Remarkable are: Knowledge of project management methodology. Experience in coaching or conducting research groups. Experience in the field of navigation systems and their interfaces. Data Science experiences. Distinguishing knowledge of the German language in word and letter.
