Number: MER00046GN In Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of the future. We mean innovative products with the highest quality and efficient development processes. We are already working on vehicles that will secure the technology leadership of Mercedes-Benz in the future.

The battery development center is responsible for the development of HV batteries in Mercedes-Benz AG. These include the pre-development of concepts with suitable cell and module technologies and their protection by prototypes and their test. The Reliability team also bundles all activities for the physical and digital protection of the electrochemical life of the battery system and is thus the central contact for degradation forecasts. We develop models to understand the complex processes within cells and to predict their impact on battery usability. These challenges include: Literature research on degradation and ageing modes of lithium-ion cells and their modeling Introduction to existing ageing models and tools Development of a mechanistic ageing model Implementation of an additional aging mechanism for new silicon-containing cell chemistry Assessment of model quality and comparison with other models The activity can start from October 2026.
