In the Centre for Internal Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine II represents the focus of cardiology, angiology, pneumology, internalist intensive medicine as well as sports and rehabilitation medicine in medical care, medical training, teaching and research, and is an integral part of the University Heart Center Ulm. Among other things, the clinic operates a certified Chest-Pain unit, supraregional Heart-Failure unit, EMAH unit, Heart-Valve unit (TAVI and mitral valve center) and a heart rhythm center (aggregate and ablation center). The clinic has 5 hybrid catheter laboratories and is a certified training facility for interventional cardiology, rhythmology (2 EPU laboratories, 1 device implantation hall), cardiac magnetic resonance tomography (2 magnetic resonance tomographs (1.5 and 3 Tesla), and interventional angiology. In stationary care, the clinic pursues a modern concept with separate paths for emergency patients (w⁠/⁠m⁠/⁠d); these are seen on a CPU decision unit, and are further processed in a stationary manner on a CPU therapy unit. For structural heart diseases, a specialized heart valve station with monitoring unit is available, for heart failure patients (w⁠/⁠m⁠/⁠d) a heart-failure unit with 5 treatment sites. The intensive care unit has 17 ventilation places and all possibilities for organ replacement procedures including VA and VV-ECMO.

In national and international research associations, our clinical research focuses primarily on the development of new catheter-interventional heart valve therapies and heart rhythm therapies, as well as the further development of interventional cardiac imaging by means of echocardiography, MRT and CT. In our Institute of Molecular Cardiology (Institute Management: Prof. Dr. Just), we focus on the systematic decryption of the molecular causes of cardiovascular diseases, genetic heart diseases and congenital heart defects. We also work in national and international research alliances on the development of therapeutic approaches to heart regeneration.

The clinic has full training empowerment for the field of internal medicine and cardiology as well as internal medicine and angiology. After completed medical training, there is a possibility for additional further education in intensive medicine, clinical acute and emergency medicine, special cardiology for adults with congenital heart defects (EMAH) and cardiac magnetic resonance tomography.
