The UIMH ensures microbiological diagnostics of all SALK hospitals at a university medical level. The modernly equipped laboratory has all diagnostic areas of medical microbiology (including MALDI-TOF analyses and broad molecular biological spectrum). In addition, the institute is responsible for all medical hospital hygiene agings of the university hospital, the surveillance of relevant pathogens ensures and advises the clinic in all spital hygiene aspects. The focus of the UIMH is the clinical orientation of the department. The institute sees itself as an interface between the clinic and the laboratory, is closely linked to the SALK antimicrobial stewardship team and takes on a broad range of microbiological-infectiological counselling (including consiliar activity) at all departments of the Uniklinikum.
