Research assistant in the field of alternating ventilation units (m/f/d)
The E.ON Energy Research Center at RWTH Aachen University deals with sustainable energy supply concepts that reflect both technical feasibility and social and economic aspects. The reduction of emissions resulting from the energy supply for buildings is one of the key research tasks of the Chair of Building and Air Conditioning Technology. In the team Lufttechnik, the research focus is on the development of pioneering heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology. In addition to considering the entire ventilation system, we also consider the individual components. Our primary focus is to optimize energy efficiency, but we also include economic aspects and the impact on comfort. In addition to our measurement methods, we serve as central tools also system simulations or flow simulations, with which we get detailed insights into the investigated processes. In addition to the technical aspects, we offer an open communicative and innovative working atmosphere in highly motivated teams with modernly equipped jobs. The exchange with more than 60 scientific employees from the other teams at the EBC offers an excellent starting point for excellent research. The transfer in business and society takes place through cooperation projects, participations and lectures in transdisciplinary events and regular publications of the members of the Center. You can also use our website for information: https://www.ebc.eonerc.rwth-aachen.de The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. There is a wide range of training and the possibility of obtaining a job ticket for employees and civil servants. .

As part of the job, you will work in the team Lufttechnik on the question of how alternating ventilation devices for ventilation of living spaces are influenced by fluctuating wind conditions. The works are located in the research project AlbeLueft (see homepage), with three important research questions focusing on: How can the behaviour of actually installed ventilation devices be investigated in a field study taking into account wind influences? What influence does a reciprocal loading of the filter have on the separation efficiency over a longer period of time and does dust release occur? Can the operating behavior of alternating ventilation devices be represented and accurately predicted in the context of dynamic plant and building simulations? You will thus plan, perform and evaluate simulations, experiments and field tests. The experiments serve as an isolated as possible investigation of individual effects under controlled boundary conditions. In addition to existing supply infrastructure, you can also use state-of-the-art measurement technology to capture the physical variables. The field trials are used to collect data used to verify and validate all-year simulations. Simplified empirical relationships can also be derived from the data. You contribute to the continuous development of software tools, simulation methods, model libraries and experimental methods available at the chair and in industrial research and development. You work with content related project applications and present your research results at national and international conferences and in journals. The support of courses and student work completes your field of activity.
You have successfully completed university studies (master or comparable) in the fields of energy technology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, building technology, or comparable. Or you have a university degree from the fields of Computational Engineering Science or Electrical Engineering and Information Technology with a strong interest in technical issues in the context of building technology. You have interests in the following areas: Implementation of (flow) experiments in modern laboratory environments Planning and implementation of field trials Energy efficiency and optimization of technical systems Air quality and particle filtration Ideally, you already have previous knowledge in the following areas, and within the scope of activity You can also be suitable: Programming skills in an object-oriented language Handling of measurement data Particle generation and (optical) particle measurement technology Thermal and fluid dynamics You have very good knowledge of German and English in word and writing and are ready to learn the lack of language skills. You like to work in a dynamic team and take responsibility. In addition, you are interested in a further scientific qualification (promotion). You want to contribute to increasing the efficiency of ventilation systems and to the development of the building of the future.
The employment is in the employment relationship. The place shall be occupied at the next possible time and shall be limited to 1 year. An extension of at least 2 years is envisaged. The temporary employment is carried out within the framework of the time-limits of the science-time contract law. It is a full-time job. There is a doctoral opportunity. The grouping depends on the TV-L. The place is rated with EG 13 TV-L. The job description is aimed at all sexes. We want to promote the careers of women at RWTH Aachen University and are therefore looking forward to applicants. Women are preferably taken into account in the case of equal suitability, competence and professional performance, provided You are underrepresented in the organisational unit and, if not in the person of a competitor, outweigh the reasons. Applications for suitable people with difficulty are expressly desired. For the purposes of equal treatment, we ask you to waive an application photo.
