In Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of the future. We mean innovative products with the highest quality and efficient development processes. Our team is working across the project on-board diagnostics (OBD) for the Mercedes and Mercedes-AMG engines, both the highly emotional conventional drives and the performance hybrids. Since these data are often only available sparsely (low-frequency), we are working on innovative AI methods to reconstruct high-resolution, physically plausible driving profiles. Your tasks in detail: Research: Literature research on state-of-the-art methods in the field of time series Generation & Super-Resolution (e.g. GANs, Diffusion Models, UAEs)

Data Engineering & Preprocessing: Build a training pipeline using SQL and Python - You use high-frequency measurement data from test drives as ''Ground Truth'' and simulate the sperm telematics format from downsampling. Integrit important context information (e.g. ADAS signals, traffic signs, topology) as conditional inputs.

Modeling: Development and training of a Generative AI model that learns to reconstruct realistic, high-frequency speed and load profiles from the simulated, coarse telematic signals

Validation: Evaluation of the model quality using test sets. You compare the generated profiles with the original measurement data with statistical accuracy and physical plausibility

The activity can begin from April 2026. The final topic is defined in consultation with the university, you and us.

Studies: Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Similar

Programming skills: Very good knowledge of Python and experience with Deep Learning Frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow)

Databases: Solid knowledge in SQL and experience in handling time series data

Know-how: First experiences with generative models (GANs, Diffusion) or time series analysis (LSTM, Transformer) are a big plus

Language: Good German or good English skills
